A Day on the South Coast.
Wednesday 01 April 2020

The morning will be spent at Christchurch Priory.  Overlooking the River Stour this magnificent building is larger  than many English cathedrals.  It was initially founded  at the end of the 11th century and periodically enlarged and embellished until the Reformation in the early 16th century.

The afternoon will be spent at the Russell-Cotes museum on the East Cliff in Bournemouth.  This remarkable seaside villa was built in 1901  by Merton Russell-Cotes as a birthday present for his wife. It contains a large and eclectic mix of objects acquired on their travels along with an extensive and unusual collection of 19th century British art.  This house, a mixture of home, museum and gallery, reflects the taste of the  wealthy industrial and merchant classes of  late Victorian England.  .
